There are so many good worship songs, but for each of us, certain songs hold more meaning. This is a list of some worship songs that are special to me—some newer, some older, and some in between. I’ve divided them into “us” songs (intended for congregational worship) and “me” songs (more suited for personal prayer). Maybe some of these are (or will become) special to you as well.
“us” songs
/ “Behold Our God”
I first heard this song in church several months ago and instantly loved it. It wonderfully captures the greatness, grandeur, wisdom, power, tenderness, and awesome love of God and turns our hearts toward Him in praise.
/ “Glorious Christ”
Another song I learned in church that’s similar to “Behold Our God,” it speaks of how creation proclaims Christ’s glory and emphasizes how much of a humbling it was for Him to come and dwell among us.
/ “God of Grace”
This is yet another song I first heard in church (I guess that’s a good place to be if you want to learn new worship songs). It lists some of the things God is and does for us, praises how He meets our many needs out of His boundless supply, and reminds us of the amazing gift of His grace and love.
Ringing with echoes of the Psalms, this classic and timeless worship song makes you want to raise your hands and sing along with all your might.
In shifting seasons and turbulent times, it’s comforting to know that our God never changes. This song reminds us of what He’s not and what He is. He’s not created; He’s not in need of anything we have. He is all-powerful and in control, and nothing shakes or surprises Him.
I will never forget hearing this on the radio for the first time. It’s a powerfully moving anthem set in a minor key (which is unusual for most worship music) and a magnificent declaration of how the Lord fights for us and stays beside us through every battle.
I first heard this song at a women’s conference a few years ago. While the sound of a roomful of women singing the chorus added to the dramatic effect, it’s powerful on its own. Reminiscent of the songs in Revelation, “The Lord Almighty Reigns” points to the day when we the glorified saints worship together in heaven.
“me” songs
While this is one of the newer songs on this list, it shows potential to become a classic worship anthem. I love how “Always Only Jesus” honors and lifts high the name of Jesus and testifies to the freedom and power found in His name.
/ “Hallelujah (Your Love Is Amazing)”
One of the older songs listed here, this jubilant and celebratory chorus sings like a river, a flowing stream of praise and gratitude for the amazing gift of God’s love.
/ “Great I Am”
This song has a transcendent aura that reminds me of John before God’s throne in the book of Revelation, capturing both the closeness and intimacy of our relationship with God as well as His greatness and power which cause us to bow in awe before Him.
/ “You Are God”
Filled with biblical imagery and laced with ethereal harmonies, “You Are God” is a soft and gentle worship song with a hint of Latin influence. It beautifully describes many wonderful qualities of our Lord and Savior in a tone of humble gratitude.
/ “Lamb of God”
Simple yet stirring, “Lamb of God” paints a picture of the splendor of God’s glory and the wonder of His presence. It’s filled with the awe and reverence we feel as we come before the Lamb who was slain, now the King seated on the throne of grace. Words cannot describe how grateful we are that He chose to make a way for us to come before Him without shame.
Artistically crafted with multiple sonic layers, this song has the depth of meaning and feeling to match its sound. In His great love, Jesus has covered us with the robe of His righteousness, purified us in His holiness, and showered us with His grace. Now He calls us to come before Him and worship Him with nothing in between.
/ “Take Me In”
Another intense and brooding prayer, “Take Me In” is a plea for God to draw us closer into the depths of His heart, past any barriers we and others may have put up in the past. He wants us to draw near.
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
— Hebrews 10:19-22 (ESV)
/ “Throne Room Song”
The veil has been torn, and now He summons us into His throne room, where we are invited to worship alongside the angels and the saints who have gone before us. It’s an amazing thought.
As always, here’s the link to the playlist of all these songs:

Thank you Hannah! We used to listen to “Hallelujah (Your Love is Amazing)” when our kids were little and they would dance around the living room.😊 I’d forgotten the name of it and so haven’t heard it for years. What a gift to find it again!
That’s so fun! I used to do that when I was little too. Glad to help! ☺️
